Dr. Foust (she/her/hers) has been practicing psychological counseling, couples therapy, and sex therapy for over twenty years (resume). Dr. Foust works virtually in Georgia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Connecticut & Florida. Dr. Foust practices:


Dr. Foust works primarily with adults. She utilizes humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, systems perspectives, psychodynamic strategies and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) Therapy in her psychological counseling work with clients. Dr. Foust is very collaborative with her clients and believes in assisting clients in meeting goals that allows them to lead their most authentic and fulfilling life possible.

Dr. Foust has experience effectively supervising therapists. She has engaged in psychological counseling in a variety of different settings including residential, in-home, intensive outpatient, clinic-based, and private practice which have all influenced her clinical and supervising skills. Dr. Foust has also designed and led psychological counseling groups on various topics. Dr. Foust's expertise has been used in articles, television and radio.

Dr. Foust received her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Psychology and Sociology from Millersville University in Pennsylvania. She received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Northeastern University in Boston Massachusetts. She then completed her Doctor of Philosophy degree in Human Sexuality from Widener University in Pennsylvania. Dr. Foust is a Licensed Counselor in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia and Florida. Dr. Foust is also a Certified Sex Therapist through The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT). She is also an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) through the Center for Credentialing and Education (CCE). She is an active member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), AASECT, and The National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).

Dr. Foust's Therapeutic Counseling Approach

Dr. Foust’s therapeutic approach blends different therapeutic modalities including humanistic, cognitive-behavioral, motivational interviewing, psychodynamic and systemic approaches. Dr. Foust is also trained in EMDR therapy and is a Certified Sex Therapist. It is her belief that individuals are unique both in how they experience the world and how they react to problems and stressors in their life and she believes it is important to view individuals within the context of their life. Dr. Foust’s typical therapeutic approach is collaborative as she feels the client knows themselves and their needs the best. She guides, informs, and challenges clients to work through their issues and find the path that is authentic and fulfilling for them. Dr. Foust actively engages in the therapy process and brings a warmth and safety that assists deep exploration of areas of concern. She believes that a lot of work also happens between sessions and does assign “homework” as appropriate to facilitate the therapeutic process. Dr. Foust is open in terms of a roadmap of what to expect in therapy and how that may shift in the therapeutic process.

Anxiety Therapy In Ocean City NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

When someone is feeling anxiety, their body can experience a wide variety of different physical symptoms to include heart palpitations, difficulty breathing, sweating, muscle tension, tightness in chest, stomach issues etc. Anxiety can also cause psychological symptoms such as ruminating thoughts, intrusive thoughts, and worst case scenario thinking. For anxiety therapy, Dr. Foust uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which explores both the cognitions and behaviors that are occurring that contribute to the anxiety and that continue to feed the anxiety. Dr. Foust may also use EMDR in certain cases of anxiety therapy. Dr. Foust’s goals of anxiety therapy are to develop strong skills for managing anxiety while also addressing the underlying issues that are contributing to the anxiety.

Problematic Compulsive Behaviors and Thoughts Therapy in Ocean City NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Identifying a compulsive behavior, thought or feeling can be challenging for the person engaging in the behavior. The person may know that the behavior is a problem and doesn’t know how to address it or the person may not want to address it. In this type of therapy, Dr. Foust can help identify a potential problem and assist with addressing it. Dr. Foust also has experience working with individuals in recovery. Once in recovery, the therapy can be very helpful to not only continue working on your recovery, but to address underlying issues of the addictive behavior. Dr. Foust is also skilled in recovery for compulsive thoughts, behaviors and feelings therapy for loved ones who are dealing with a family member, friend, or partner stuck in problematic repetitive behaviors.

Trauma Therapy in Ocean City, NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Individuals can experience trauma in a variety of different ways including emotional, physical or sexual abuse, car accidents, sudden loss, an assault etc. Individuals can also experience trauma symptoms in reactions to what may seem like smaller events such as humiliating experience at work, ongoing fighting with a partner, financial problems like a bankruptcy, etc. Trauma therapy can help with managing symptoms whether mild or severe as well as assisting with addressing the various challenges functioning in present life. Even if the person knows that the experience is in the past and can’t hurt them, that knowledge often does not stop the person from reacting to triggers from the past event. In trauma therapy, Dr. Foust uses Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy as well as EMDR to help clients work through traumatic experiences. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy works by using positive behavioral strategies to help calm the reactiveness of triggers while also addressing the emotions and cognitions that are keeping the trauma reaction in place. EMDR is used to process the trauma events that have become “stuck” and are driving the reactions to various triggers in the present. This processing often assists in significant decreases in distress related to traumatic memories.

Grief Therapy in Ocean City NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

All of us experience grief at some point in our lives whether it’s the death of a loved one or pet, loss of a relationship or divorce, or the loss of a job. There are many changes in life that can trigger a grief process and grief therapy can be helpful to navigate that process. Dr. Foust uses an emotion focused, humanistic approach to grief therapy believing that grief is a natural process to be experienced and not one to be “fixed”. Dr. Foust also uses cognitive behavioral strategies in grief therapy to assist in that process to help make meaning and address any problematic thoughts that surface in the grief process. Dr. Foust may also use EMDR strategies to assess individuals with processing through their grief.

Sex Therapy in Ocean City, NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Sexual issues and dysfunctions can happen to anyone and are more common than you may think. Dr. Foust has a doctorate in Human Sexuality and is a Certified Sex Therapist who has extensive experience in sex therapy for a variety of different sexual concerns to include sexual dysfunctions, sexual compulsivity, desire discrepencies, sexual orientation concerns, alternative sexual lifestyles including ethical non monogamy and kink as well as sexual fetishes. Dr. Foust using cognitive behavioral sex therapy technqiues, psychoeducation, systemic perspectives, and a humanistic approach to deaing with sexual concerns. Dr. Foust believes that everyone has an inherent right to experiencing sexual pleasure as well as acceptance of who they choose to be as a sexual being. Sex Therapy can help assist in that process.

Couples Therapy in Ocean City NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

It is more common than people may think to see a therapist for couples therapy. Dr. Foust assists in navigating a variety of issues that couples may face including communication, infidelity, sexual concerns, premarital, or deciding whether or not to stay together. Couples therapy is different from individual therapy in that each person is represented equally. Dr. Foust focuses on systems theory to focus on the problematic dynamics that are occurring and that each partner plays a role in the problem. With sexual concerns in couples therapy, Dr. Foust looks at the dynamics as well as utilizing sex therapy techniques to assist in resolving the issue. As communication is very important in any couple, Dr. Foust will assist in teaching positive, effective communication skills. When infidelity has occurred, trust has often been shattered. The first step in infidelity recovery therapy is to discuss what has occurred, addressing and voicing the emotions that are being felt and working on re-establishing trust in the relationship. Infidelity recovery therapy then focuses on repairing trust in order to begin rebuilding a relationship. The final part of infidelity recovery therapy is to address the problematic issues in the relationship that were occurring before the infidelity.

Chronic Pain Therapy in Ocean City, NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Chronic pain is best addressed from both a medical and psychological perspective to understand the mind body connection. For chronic pain therapy, Dr. Foust helps clients to develop positive skills using Cognitive Behavioral and Mindfulness strategies. These skills can help clients to address problematic thought patterns and behaviors that may be negatively impacting their pain condition. Chronic pain therapy also assists clients who need help learning how to advocate for themselves in the medical world to try to get the care that they desire.

Mood Disorder Therapy in Ocean City, NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Mood Disorders such as Depression and Bipolar Disorder are often best managed with medication and mood disorder therapy. Dr. Foust helps clients to learn how to better track their patterns that occur with their mood. In mood disorder therapy. Foust uses cognitive behavior techniques to help develop positive coping skills and also helps clients to address underlying issues that contribute to mood difficulties using both cognitive behavioral techniques and psychodynamic exploration.

Ambivalence Therapy (Feeling “Stuck”) in Ocean City, NJ and virtual in Pennsylvania, Georgia, & Florida.

Have you ever felt just truly stuck in a situation or in life and feel like you just can make a decision? Ambivalence therapy involves assisting clients in determining how they can get unstuck. In Ambivalence therapy, Dr. Foust uses Motivational Interviewing techniques as well as Cognitive Behavioral techniques to assist clients in determining their needs and wants, considering all aspects of the situation, and most importantly uncovering the factors that are creating the difficulties with moving out of the current situation.
